Start your journey with a trip to the local Maritime Museum, which features fascinating exhibitions on maritime science, the shipbuilding history, and many other aspects of maritime life. This place takes you into an exciting world of ocean adventures and historical discoveries.
At the end of the gallery visit, we head out of coastal Sur to a natural area where the bordering settlement of Ras Al-Jins - known as ‘turtle paradise’ - is located. On the deserted shores of Oman, huge ocean turtles come to lay their eggs.
When visiting the shores where turtles lay their eggs, it's important to remember that these creatures respond to light. Because of this, every significant period in the turtles' existence occurs at night, when the females come to the shore and lay their eggs. In order to observe this magnificent event, excursions are organised from 9pm until dawn. In one act, a female turtle is usually able to lay around 100 to 200 eggs, and it is a long and labour-intensive process. Thus, it must be watched carefully and calmly, as it is difficult and even risky for the turtles to walk on land.
This unforgettable journey, full of the magic and majesty of the surrounding nature, will leave everyone with vivid memories and a sense of honour for life in its most beautiful manifestation.
